Darkon, (In-Production)
Ovie Entertainment is in production on a feature documentary called Darkon, directed by Andrew Neel and Luke Meyer. Darkon is a feature-length documentary that follows the real-life adventures of an unusual group of weekend “warrior knights,” fantasy role-playing gamers whose live action “battleground” is modern-day Baltimore, Maryland, re-imagined as a make-believe medieval world also named Darkon.

Amid the detritus of a dreary suburban landscape -- a far cry from the founding fathers’ idealist vision for our country – hundreds of pretend soldiers, men and women, teenagers and adults, suit up in Sunday armor, wield plywood swords, and wage a spectacular fantasy war right out of Dungeons and Dragons, Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter.

Darkon boldly explores the boundaries between fantasy and reality. At the same time, the film raises intriguing questions about oppression, freedom, escapism, identity, and self-worth in suburban sprawl, strip mall America. The exciting deeds in the war for the realm Darkon pack a visceral cinematic punch, while the social and inner lives of the warriors themselves provide powerful emotional insights into, surprisingly, our very own deepest selves.
