Director Andrew Neel talks about Darkon on G4TV's "Attack of the Show"
Darkon is a live-action Role Playing Game. But rather than struggle over a game board, players actually head out into parks and woods—then physically fight over virtual land in real battles. (Not to worry—the weapons are usually padded.) Co-director Andrew Neel decided this was a social phenomenon worth noting, so he’s putting together a Darkon documentary called, yes, DARKON, produced by Ovie Entertainment.
“It’s a full-contact sport,” Andrew said. “Yeah, magic is involved, but if you get hit, it’s serious. It’s a real sport, there’s real skill involved.”

The rules of engagement are pretty simply: if you get hit in the arm, you lose your arm; if you get hit in the right place, you’re dead. The battles are not scripted, and players come from all walks of life.

“Frankly it’s just awesome,” enthused Andrew. “It’s fun. It’s bizarre and cool. You’re interacting with flesh and blood, it’s as real as it can get. It was one of the best experiences of my life hanging out with these guys for a year.”
